Another Ambush! So soon? I can’t do this anymore. I have to find somebody who can competently run this fortress. I’m turning command over now. I can’t watch more Dwarves die.
6th Opal Mid-winter
We finally got the goblins captured…nearly 20 dwarves lost their lives. The squads tried to take them out, but they had no training and were reported to have died quickly. It’s mighty hard to dig out rooms when you know your fellow men are dying. Worst of all of this, is that Tristi and SuchLovelyColor have passed away. We have all the goblins in cages, and letting them starve to death is the only suffering good enough for them. I’d like to stick my pick-axe in their eyes as well, but I need it to dig, and I’d rather not dirty it with such petty blood.
There’s still 35 of us, so our first goal is to get everything back in order. Once everything has calmed down and we’ve lived down the trauma, we’ll begin creating a mighty military, so that this will never happen again.
19th Timber Late Autumn
Another trade Caravan. They wanted another ridiculous deal, and as such, it has been given to them. Oh well, we now have a grand amount of animals that I’m sure our hunters will make good use of!
Curses! A goblin ambush followed them! Our poor plant gatherer is being chased and if I had thought to make some real weapons, we could be saving him. Argh, next time they won’t be so lucky!
16th Sandstone Mid Autumn

Our cook was just stung by a honey bee. After his horrifyingly womanly scream echoed through the halls, SuchLovelyColor immediately treated the sting by taking out the stinger and slapping our cook calling him a “Sodding piece of worthless”.
Not again! Another damn wave of Immigrants! Good thing the barracks is completed. It’s time to start up my military! 11 of the bastards have swarmed in. I need to make men of them.
On an unrelated note, the new bedroom corridors are now completed! Some sketches of them are included in my report as well as sketches of the completed barracks.
17th Galen Late Summer
Amazing! Another Caravan has arrived wanting to trade! I wonder what useless things they’ll offer me this time. Then again, I’m sure all of that rope I acquired last time had some use, just, not yet. After setting up a good trade, their caravan leader suggests to me a different trade in which he profits substantially more, about four times more. To that I say, eh. Fine. You’re only lucky that my Crafts dwarf is the best in the entire land of Slaughterwound. He left rather ecstatic. Piss on ‘em. Bringing me useful goods and demanding excellently crafted goods. Asshole.
23rd Hematite
Another wave of Immigrants. And we haven’t even finished the bedrooms yet. Well, time to put my multi-tasking to the test and prepare for a gruesome summer. Thank Armok only 9 of them have arrived. I’ve just realized not a single Dwarf of mine has plucked a bush in their lives. Looks like one of the new dwarves is going to be our new herbalist! Congratulations! Now to wait and see how long it takes for someone to call him fruity.

Son of a- Well, a snatcher has invaded the fortress. We’ll see if he gets past the traps and that incredibly aggressive dog. You should see the things it does for, and to, its food. Hmm, it appears none of the traps have been activated and the dog’s teeth remain as white as a fresh dwarven bum. Perhaps he is lying in ambush. I’ve sent a scout out so let’s hope they return.
16th Hematite
I’m not sure how, but our cheese maker, who has never made a block of cheese since he got here, is now possessed. I was unaware that heads could spin in complete circles with no repercussions to the individual. He has kicked the Crafts dwarf out of his workshop and is demanding strange materials. It’s a good thing we just traded and have a surplus of crafts. After a few minutes, he’s gathered his materials and is undergoing some sort of mysterious construction. A few dwarves have stopped to watch on their breaks and are reporting that they’ve seen this type of behavior before. What causes this appears to be unknown, but I was told that he’ll make something of great value. We shall see.
12th Hematite Early Summer
Ahh! Summer has hit! …And nothing truly productive has happened. The barracks are almost dug out, and the rooms have almost been completed. I’ve extended the main room at the entrance so we can have some more stockpiles. Progress isn’t going exactly as hoped, then again, I’m not really very good at this whole, command thing. Oh well, I was chosen for some reason, and I should try to prove myself. Gonna sketch up a few pictures of the place as is right now.

22nd Felsite
An Elven caravan! Time for my first experience commanding a trade. I’m a tad nervous and have the military prepared in case they try anything funny…And after much bargaining, I seem to have come across an absurd amount of reed rope. This has to be useful for something, they had it by the crate-full. Oh well, back to business!
12th Slate Mid-spring
My other miners keep asking me why we’re digging out all of these noble rooms when we don’t even know this many nobles, let alone ever have this many. That’s when I promptly tell them you can never be too careful. I always get a strange glance when I tell them that…
One of the immigrants has taken a liking to masonry and has started building us some armor stands and weapon racks. The barracks will be started as soon as we can finish digging out all of these at-the-moment- useless rooms.
25th Granite
Oh hell. Whilst working on the new rooms and setting up plans for a barracks, migrants have arrived. I have a hard enough time multitasking with who we’ve got now, let alone more dwarves arriving. I’ve received word that more dwarves are on their way after this bunch. Son of a bitch. Well, my first goal is to figure out what they can do, and make them do it. Or simply make them do whatever the hell I need them to. Such is life.
Holy…19 Immigrants. Well, I hope they can learn to use a weapon, because that’s what I’m going to do with them. Except for the one that can carve stone exceptionally well, oh and someone has convinced me they can use a loom. They may have escaped my draft this time, but next time I don’t know if anybody will be that lucky…
12th Granite, Early Spring
While working on digging out a new corridor quite a few levels deep I was summoned to the dining room. Waiting for me was SuchLovelyColor and Tirist. Tirist motioned for me to sit down and SuchLovelyColor pulled a chair out for me to sit on. I sat down and looked over at her to thank her. Before words could escape my mouth, I noticed the look upon her face. I quickly turned back to Tirist and could’ve sworn I heard SuchLovelyColor whisper something about the ‘sodding fortress’.
“We’re turning control of the fortress and what must be done with it to you.” Tirist announced somewhat proudly. SuchLovelyColor smirked and quickly added, “And there’s not a sodding thing you can say to make us change our mind.” And with that, I was shown some papers of general orders SuchLovelyColor had prepared for the next season. I assumed I was on my own after that.
Well, with me in command of Slaughterwound, we can only hope we live past summer. I first set out to have the new corridor being dug out to become new bedrooms. Most of the Dwarves have been complaining about too much noise going on. As much as I’d love to accommodate to everyone’s individual needs, I need to prepare a military in case we get ambushed. Being as paranoid as I am, I’d love to have maximum protection. Also…I feel like I should engrave our weapons with fairies…
